Loy Krathong festival, come to join the ancient water and river thanks giving festival in Bangkok and other parts in Thailand.
In the November full moon shine night, this might be an ordinary night for many people but for Thai, this is the festival. I was amazing when I had seen people lighten the candle in the small banana leave baskets or “Krathong” and floated them in the canal or river. Fire works were shot around. People were very enjoying. Many came with their partners. This is Loy Krathong Festival.
The origin of this festival has been unknown, but some historian assumed that it might be started in the period of Auddhaya state, the former Kingdom of Thai since, the town was located near the river around three to four hundred years ago in order to pay homage to the goddess of water. Until now, this tradition has been continued since the historical time and become part of Thai culture. Every year, on the November full moon shine day according to lunar calendar, Thai people always celebrated this occasion.
Loy Krathong celebration, lots of people bring “Krathong” or candle lid to float in the river. Many kids were having fun with playing tiny fire works. Some date their partners in this festival since Thai people believed that floating “Krathong” with their partner, their love will be last forever.
There were many activities in the celebration. The most interesting one was a Ms. Noppamas and parade contest. Ms Noppamas is the legendary figure related with the tale of Loy Krathong. This was the great opportunity for good looking girl to present themselves. They dressed in traditional costume and came with their parade. Beside the beauty of Ms Noppamas, the competition criteria were based on the innovative ideas of decoration of the parade. Ms Noppamas competition was the major event, organized in every town at the Loy Krathong night.
In my opinion, Loy Krathong night is the most colourful night in Thailand, the night which is lightened by the candle light and blasting fireworks and the night that people come out for celebration. It is not over to state that travelling to Thailand provides you much more than a wonderful experience.Bangkok and other towns are wating for you to discover.
